How We Can Help
-
We help with PTSD, Complex PTSD, traumatic grief and distressing memories. Therapy is paced so you stay in control while we work with you to reduce flashbacks, nightmares and hypervigilance, and help your body feel safe again. We also support rebuilding identity, routines and meaning after trauma.
-
From OCD/Health Anxiety/BDD to panic attacks, social anxiety, perfectionism, worry and agoraphobia—we use approaches that are evidence based to support you to calm the nervous system and face fears safely so that you feel calm and confident. For OCD/BDD we typically utilise therapy approaches informed by the gold standard approach of exposure and response prevention to reduce rituals and checking so that you’re able to focus on living your life in a way that’s meaningful for you.
-
If you’re feeling low, burnt out or stuck in self-criticism, we offer warm, evidence-based support to lift mood and restore energy. We blend behavioural activation with targeted thinking and compassion-based work, and create a safety plan if self-harm or suicidal thoughts are present. Together we’ll reconnect you with people and activities that matter.
-
Many people come to therapy because relationships feel stuck. In a calm, reflective space, we look at you and the people around you as a system—how each person’s reactions shape the other. With that understanding, we help you try new ways of communicating, setting boundaries, and connecting.
-
When concerns about your appearance are affecting your self-esteem and confidence, we support body-image and appearance concerns, disordered eating and body dysmorphic disorder with sensitive, evidence-based care. The focus is on reducing checking/avoiding, softening self-criticism, and building a kinder, more flexible relationship with your body. With your consent, we will coordinate with your GP and/or dietitian when medical input is needed.
-
If you’re living with distressing beliefs or experiences (e.g., hearing, seeing things, or believing things that others don’t), we offer respectful, practical support to reduce fear and improve day-to-day functioning. We’ll explore gentle reality-testing and coping strategies, while coordinating care with your GP/psychiatrist. Our aim is to help you feel safer and more in charge of your choices.
-
Psychology board approved supervisors experienced in providing supervision to psychologists, trainee psychiatrists, social workers, counsellors, occupational therapists and mental health nurses.
Our Philosophy
At Unfolding Minds, we focus on understanding your unique experiences and how they’ve shaped you, so the work fits you—not a template. We take time to listen, clarify what matters, and set clear goals together.
We create a collaborative space for meaningful growth. Together, we’ll explore your inner world, connect with your emotions, and build the self-compassion needed for lasting change. Along the way, we turn insight into practical steps you can use between sessions and review progress regularly to make sure the approach is working.
FAQs
-
The first session is an opportunity for us to begin understanding what has brought you to therapy and what feels most important to you right now. Rather than rushing to solutions, the aim to listen carefully and get a sense of your experiences — how you’ve been feeling, what’s been difficult, and what you hope might change.
-
This varies for everyone. Some people benefit from a few sessions focused on specific goals, while others choose ongoing therapy to support deeper personal growth. We can discuss what feels right for you.
-
Standard consultations are charged at $250 for approximately 50 minutes duration. These fees are set well below the Australian Psychological Society recommended rate of $311.
Medicare rebates are available when using a mental health care plan and referral from your GP. As clinical psychologists, these provide a rebate of $141.85 meaning the gap between consultation fee and rebate is approximately $110. Please see below for further information about using mental health care plans.
Please provide 48 hours notice for cancellations and rescheduling appointments. Cancellation fees are charged at 50% of the consultation fee if less than 48 hours notice and 100% of the consultation fee is less than 24 hours notice.
-
If you would like to claim rebates, you will need both a mental health care plan and a referral letter addressed to the clinical psychologist you’re seeing for your appointment.
Please be aware that using a mental health care plan requires your psychologist to write a summary letter for your doctor to review. A second referral from your GP is required after a maximum of 6 sessions in order to access the maximum number of 10 rebates per calendar year.
A referral from a GP lasts for up to 12 months, and a referral from a psychiatrist lasts for up to 3 months.
